Christmas Time
As the year end is drawing near, I look back at the cupcake tasting I had in late May & think .....did I really make so many cute cupcakes for so many people!? It amazes me that everyone has loved my cupcakes. Nothing makes me happier than making cupcakes for my friends & family & watching their face when they first see them!!!!! I look forward to next year & to making more people smile :) all because of little ol cupcakes! I actually had to stop saying yes to people for the month of December! After all it is Christmas time & I have to make it special for my own little family. Thank you to everyone that has sampled my creations this year & Kupkakes by Kimmie wishes you all A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS & A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR!!!!!!

Better than those cupcake shops in Hoboken
WHAT?! Last weekend I did kupkakes for an engagement party. The couple & alot of their friends live in Hoboken where there are ALOT of bakeries & cupcake shops. The mother of the bride told me the wedding couple & their friends thought the kupkakes made by Kupkakes by Kimmie were better, they loved them & they were the hit of the party! WHOO HOO!!! Are you kidding me? WOW I was so excited to hear this I was jumping up & down! Even though I was so excited I think alot has to do freshness, I make my kupkakes the day of the event or bake the kupkake the day before at the earliest for huge orders. Everyone should know very few bakeries bake their cakes the day of the event most are frozen so maybe that had something to do with why they thought mine tasted better. But whatever the reason I was elated, & now they can't wait to have kupkakes for the shower! WHOO HOO again :)

Foodnetwork Magazine Halloween Cupcake Contest
Well I've entered another contest! FoodNetwork Magazine which is very exciting although the chances of winning something so huge is slim to none! I imagine there will be 1000's of entries. My witchiepoo is made completely out of fondant & the stars on her hat & cape are edible glitter. There is a toothpick down through her head to stabilize but other than that it is completely edible :) Witchie poo is sitting on a Red Velvet Cupcake with Orange(colored not flavored) buttercream icing. I had meant to use a Halloween cupcake liner but I forgot so I just sat the baked cupcake in a Halloween liner....how I could have forgot that is beyond me! I guess I was too worried about taking the photos because all you had to do was upload a photo of your cupcake! I wish there was more to it like sending along your recipe or something! I believe the entries have to be in by November 10th or sometime in November...so I will keep everyone updated if I hear anything. Oh by the way the prize is $500. to spend at The FoodNetwork Store & the cover of the magazine(I imagine for next years October edition) I was excited about the possibility of buying a pot & pan set & my daughter said, " MA it's the COVER for Pete Sakes!!!!!" LOL

Hamilton Twp. Septemberfest Baking Contest
Well today was the annual Septemberfest Baking Contest. I entered Pina Colada cupcakes. They were one of only 7 entries maybe because you were not allowed to use a mix the entries had to be homemade ( I figured of course they did). The winners will not be announced until this Tuesday the 20th, I really do not understand the reason for this being there were only 7 entries. I could see if there were a 100, but I think the juding panel could have just said give us 15 minutes & we'll announce the winner. But nevertheless it was a fun thing to do & of course I hope to place in the contest but I'm sure every single contestant hopes the very same thing. I will post the recipe on Tuesday win or loose they were delicious cupcakes. People that watched the judging were allowed to sample the baked goods after the judges tasted everything & from what I saw everyone that ate my Pina Colada cupcakes really looked like they enjoyed them. :)

Orders just keep rolling in.....
I would like to thank everyone that I have made cupcakes for! I love making cupcakes for my family & friends. This week I made cute little vanilla cupcakes with sprinkles in the batter like "Funfetti" cupcakes with purple buttercream icing & little yellow fondant flowers for my daughter's 24th birthday. I can't believe she chose such a simple design but they were adorable. I am also making vanilla cupcakes for a friend's 50th birthday party. She owns a cleaning business & the cupcakes have little fondant cleaning supplies & 50's on them! They are so very cute! I can't wait to put them together so I can post the pictures. I'm sure everyone will love them as much as I do :)

Oven & modem bit the dust
Well it has been quite awhile since I've been on my blog! It has been a hairy few weeks. First my oven died, not just sick....but completely dead! Not a good thing for a cupcake baker LOL. Then we had the most horrible thunder storm & lightening hit the transformer box across the street & the entire neighborhood lost power for about 15 hours. When the power finally went back on I found out my modem had been fried. So no computer for days until the new one arrived. And no cupcakes until the new oven arrived but everything is fine now & I can start making cupcakes for everyone again :) While I was unable to bake I did do some fondant work on some upcoming orders so when those orders get picked up, I will display some more pictures. Always remember...MAYBE A CUPCAKE WILL HELP :)

Countdown to my first wedding!
Starting this Thursday night I will be starting to make 150 rainbow cupcakes for a wedding on Saturday :) I enlisted some help from my Mother-in-law & my brother-in-law's girl friend to help. I have to make 5 different colors of batter & put 1 tablespoon of each colored batter into the cupcake liners to achieve the rainbow effect of each cupcake! Then I have to ice 29 cupcakes each in red, orange, yellow, green & blue icing & 6 plain white ones for people that are allergic to dye! Holy cow this will be quite a feat :) Then each cupcake gets a little ribbon on it. Then Saturday I will deliver the cupcakes & set them up & since I am friends with the customer I get to be a guest at the wedding too! I cannot wait to take pictures of the display. Holy rainbow the pictures are going to be awesome!!!!!!

Well today I have 4 dozen cupcakes to make! Then I am done until the weekend after 4th of July. Orders are flying in
Please please call me several weeks in advance with your orders! Especially if you are requesting fondant toppers. My book is filling up very quickly. I cannot guarantee that you will get cupcakes for your events if you call me with only 24-48 hours notice. Fondant work takes hours to do. So again PLEASE call with plenty of notice prior to your event. Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend & remember to always honor out military men & women :)

NOTICE
Unfortunately at this time when people place an order of 2 dozen & under it can only be 1 flavor of cupcake....it is simply impossible to break down a recipe to 1/2 dozen of each flavor. I'm sorry for the inconvenience but since I bake as orders come in & don't freeze my product it is simply not cost efficient & wastes too much batter

Phone, email, Facebook...........
Alot of people are requesting cupcakes!!!!!!!!! So I guess the hard work for the tasting paid off! My back is killing me & my right hand is so numb I want to scream but I love making cupcakes so I will just have to deal with it! I love to see people smile when I open the box & they see their cupcakes. It is truly a thrill. It amazes me how a little tiny cupcake can make people so happy :)

The tasting event
Well, last night was the Kupkakes by Kimmie Tasting Event & it was a huge success! I was so glad that the taste of my kupkakes went over so well! I really wanted people to know that they tasted as good as they look! I even had the guests fill out a questionnaire (no names) to give their honest opinions about everything. Every person said the cupcakes were moist & like the buttercream & cream cheese icing. Several upcoming orders were placed & word of mouth is the best way to get the word out. I am very happy everything worked out so well...Cupcake Wars here I come LOL

ESP was working in full force :)
Well the yellow daisy cupcakes were picked up yesterday & when I opened the box to show the lady she said "Oh My God"! I said what's wrong???? Apparently she forgot to mention that daisies are her Mom's favorite flower & she loves yellow! How about that?! I was very happy to hear that! It is so nice to meet new people that really like what you do! Well the next thing will be the huge tasting event for my friends to sample some of my work, I sure hope it is a success, I will be posting about the outcome.....stay tuned :)

The orders just keep rolling in!
Out of no where I have another cupcake order! Imagine that!!! Actually a friend has referred 2 orders from complete strangers so this next order must look good. It is an order just for her Mom's birthday with no specific theme...maybe some flowers. I don't have alot of time to think about it they are needed for tomorrow, so I am thinking little daisies. The only problem I have is they need a doz and a half but half chocolate & half vanilla that is alot of wasted batter for a small order I will have to learn how to say no to some things. Hopefully I can get my mind in gear & turn out something beautiful! I will post pictures when they are completed :)

College graduation cupcakes
Today's the day for baking the college graduation cupcakes! Still have alittle work to do on the toppers. Hopefully these will turn out as nice as the the others. It is just a simple vanilla cupcake with vanilla icing. I am thinking of doing a blue & white swirl with the icing since those are the colors of the University of New Hampshire! I also may do some plain vanilla frosting with an air brush of blue color. Pictures of the final product will be posted later this evening. I would love to get some feedback on what my followers think of the pictures of the creations on my blog. All honest feedback is apppreciated... good, bad or indifferent.

The makeup cupcakes were a hit!
The little girl that the makeup cupcakes were made for adored them! She even called me to thank me for them. Hannah said they were SO nice she didn't even want to eat her cupcake. All of her little friends loved them as well, some even tried to put the lipstick on...LOL! I am just happy that they put a smile on her face......that is the best part about making cupcakes! They make people happy! So always remember.....MAYBE A CUPCAKE WILL HELP :)

Experimenting for my Easter Cupcakes
I've made peanut butter filled chocolate eggs today to test out the peanut butter filling. I am making Easter cupcakes as one of our desserts this year. You could say kind of a trial run on filled cupcakes. I will be making chocolate cupcakes with a peanut butter filling, chocolate icing & a little white bunny on top & vanilla cupcakes with a mounds candy bar type filling with vanilla icing and a toasted coconut nest with 3 little bluebirds on top! Hopefully they will be adorable & I will post the pictures closer to Easter. I may attempt to create my bunnies this weekend if so I will post pictures of the bunnies tomorrow. I love this time of year...new beginnings, spring, Easter, warmer weather just everything! If anyone is in need of Easter cupcakes please contact me :)

Michael's Cupcakes
Today I am making my nephew's cupcakes BUT I can't take pictures until I get down to my daughter's tonight. I would not be able to transport them with the guitars & squiggles on them because they are so tall. I really hope he likes them! So pictures will be posted on Sunday I guess, being I need to input them into my computer & I'm not taking my computer to my daughters. Well I hope they impress him at the age of 18 I have a funny feeling teenagers are alittle hard to impress these days :)

No cupcakes this weekend
Well no baking will be going on here this weekend. Next bunch of cupcakes will be for my nephew Michael, who is in the band Wilhelm & plays the bass.
So pictures will be up for them maybe next Sunday. I found a website that sells 24 count cupcake pans & I was thinking I should buy a few for the big wedding I have in July. That will be 150 cupcakes! And that is A WHOLE LOT OF BAKING! So it would go alot quicker if I could have 48 cupcakes in the oven at once! I may have to take off from work to complete the task, it would be so wonderful if my boss goes on vacation that week, one can only hope & pray LOL. Well that's it for this weekend and always remember...

They liked them... they really liked them!
"Very pleased and so glad the cards were there, Thanks Kim, they were a winner."
That's a direct quote from the caterer friend I made the storks & babies for! WHOO HOO hopefully she will need dessert in the future & give me a ring.
Today I am going to attempt to mold chocolate guitars & musical notes for my nephews birthday. He is in a band called Wilhelm and plays the bass guitar! And he only likes vanilla cupcakes with vanilla icing! I asked him if I can at least dye the frosting. Michael said yes if it doesn't taste any different. So color will be my only decorating devise for his birthday cupcakes and whether he likes it or not he is getting chocolate guitars on top of his cupcakes with a few other little surprises on top!

They loved them:)
Well the caterer friend that wanted the baby & stork cupcakes just loved them! Can't wait to hear how the people at the luncheon liked them. They gave me a wonderful compliment, saying they have been in the business a very long time & haven't seen that kind of work. And that I need to change my calling cards to Cupcakologist or Cupcake Maker Extraodinaire. WOW!!! Me really?!

The storks brought all the little baby girls & boys
Well the babies & storks are all done! And I learned something today :( if you use whole eggs you can NOT dye the batter blue! It turns green! Oh my goodness I was slightly freaking out about that since I used all the cake flour that I had. But the final outcome of the pink & blue boy/girl cupcakes was just adorable! So all I can say about the slightly greenish cupcake is lesson learned!
Please leave feedback about my cupcakes all feedback is appreciated good, bad & indifferent!

Can't wait until tomorrow :)
Well tomorrow is the day to make the 3 dozen cupcakes for the Labor & Delivery Luncheon at a local hospital. I wish I was making them today. I love the reaction of the people I make the cupcakes for. Hopefully the reaction will be How cute or So adorable! Of course, I want them to like the taste of the cupcakes as well not just the design of the cupcake. I will have to start taking a survey after my friends pick up the cupcakes for their events. Just wondering I am thinking of making plain cupcakes with wonderful flavor combinations....but that would be like every other cupcake maker around now a days......maybe I will just stick to my niche of awesome adorable cupcakes with personality! What do you think?????

Storks and babies oh my
The storks are done and they came out really cute. It is alittle difficult working with 4 different colors of melted chocolate, but I did it & they are adorable. Now today onto making little tiny babies in a blanket, all different ethnicities too. Now the date of this order has suddenly changed from Monday to Tuesday creating quite a cunumdrum since I work all day Monday & don't get home until 5:30ish. But this is with the caterer so I can't complain and hopefully she will need more cupcakes in the future. I will keep my fingers crossed that these cupcakes go over well. I will definately keep you posted LOL

The stork mold came!!!!!
The stork mold came and I already made 4! One broke at the leg/body joint but no biggie. Just wanted to get some practice in. They are not all that difficult to make so just need 9 more storks and then onto the fondant babies. The icing will be baby blue & pink 18 of each color . Wednesday will be baby making day :) I will post pictures on Wednesday...wish me luck!
Waiting on supplies
I really really hope my stork mold comes today at the very least tomorrow. OMG I have to start making these storks. I will be up the proverbial creek without a paddle if they don't arrive. I do not want to disappoint the people that asked for the cupcakes. I know the babies will be cute but they want storks & babies. Say a prayer to the mailman for me because I need that mold!

No cupcakes this weekend
I was really hoping that the stork chocolate mold I ordered would have shown up today. But unfortunately it did not. Next weekend I will have 3 dozen cupcakes to make & I really wanted to have the storks all done. I can start making the little babies in a blanket out of fondant though. What did arrive today were my new calling cards. Beautiful cards...Kupkakes by Kimmie with pink butterflies all over the front of the card! Imagine that incorporating my new favorite things into one; cupcakes & butterflies :) SWEET

No Go
I guess the blood drive really wanted marble mini cupcakes because they totally changed their mind & are just having little sandwiches and NO dessert! No dessert just does not seem right since it's my favorite portion of the food pyramid. Well I wish them good luck on their blood donations anyway!
Thursday, March 17, 2011
Red Cross Blood Drive Cupcakes!
Another possibility, 5 doz mini cupcakes for a Red Cross Blood Drive! They wanted marble cake with white icing and their logo red blood drip on top! I had to actually say no to the marble! Can you imagine marbleizing 60 mini cupcakes in those teeny tiny cupcake pans! I suggested red velvet so it's a wait & see right now.

Baby Girls, Baby Boys & Storks OH MY!
Well now making cupcakes for a luncheon incorporating a labor & delivery theme! Girl & Boy Babies & Storks how cute. I am thinking I will make the babies from fondant & the storks from a chocolate mold. Really have to put on my thinking cap for this one. They need to be perfecto! Thinking plain vanilla with light pink & blue frosting with pearls & the baby or stork on top! Of course pictures will follow :)

Need to make MORE cupcakes :)
Well today the peapods get picked up....I must find some other people to make cupcakes for!!! I am the happiest making the darn little things my family laughs because I'm so smiley when I make them:) It is so much fun, there's no stress & cupcakes make everyone HAPPY. Now I am trying to think of a theme for my 18 yr old nephew's birthday. He is a musician in a band ... any suggestions?

The peapods are done...the peapods are done!!
These are by far the cutest ccupcakes I have ever made! I am very proud of them. The icing is swirly green & baby blue. Every cupcake has a peapod & a pea tendril &/or little green pea. I certainly hope they are a big hit at the baby shower :)
Well todays the day!
OK so today is the very first time I am making a substantial amount of cupcakes for an event. It is a baby shower for twins. The cupcakes are my Two Peas in a Pod cupcakes very very cute for little twinigans! Hopefully today will go better than yesterday....I made a cake for our nephew's birthday.
1st the batter spewed over the pans while baking, then apparently I didn't chill the cake enough for the crumb coat, then I didn't have the proper tools to smooth the buttercream, & my hand was so shaky I had a horrible time with the squeeze bag & doing the trim work with the icing, I had to keep stopping & starting over! It is definitely NOT up to my cupcake standards!! I can decorate 1 little tiny cupcake & take a rest...you cannot do that with an entire cake. I am a cupcake maker & I suck as a cake maker! It will taste fine but the look of it leaves something to be desired. It's very amateurish & I am slightly embarrassed. Oh well :( Off to cupcake land pictures of the finished peapod cupcakes will be posted later. Note to self: these cupcakes better look adorable!

Testing out arm with nerve damage
Well this weekend I will test out my arm to see how it holds up decorating a substantial amount of cupcakes. 40 cupcakes is quite a few to be trying to squeeze a pastry bag for hours. I do not have the arm strength of Buddy the Cake Boss that is for sure! The hubs wanted to invent something for me that would be like a caulk gun & alot easier to use than squeezing a pastry bag....he thought if it panned out & he could sell it maybe we would have enough money to open a little bake shop.....guess what Wilton already made one you would have to refill quite a bit because its not very big. I haven't told him yet. He will be heart broken. I was quite surprised when I saw it in AC Moore since I am always in the cake aisle and never saw anything like it before, it must be a new product. Hopefully, my arm will hold out & it doesn't take my entire weekend trying to ice these cupcakes. I see many breaks & arm rubbing in my future. :(

Pea Pods
Well today I'm doing alot of fondant work making little pea pods for the baby shower cupcakes this weekend. I had never worked with fondant before so I was a little nervous....but once I got the hang of it I was banging out the pea pods rather quickly. It took the longest to actually dye the fondant & to make sure the color was uniform. Once it is rolled out I simply cut circles of green & lay them out on waxed paper. Then I used a faint pink or skin color fondant to make little balls which are the peas. I sit 2 peas in a pod & fold the circle over so the little peas are just peeking out. I will make little smiley faces on the peas & I even made some green curlycue's....if you have ever seen an actual pea plant you will know what I am referring to. I cannot wait to see the finished product! I'm very excited about these baby shower cupcakes! So the way I see things is my decorating skills are all self-taught everything is by trial & error and I'm actually doing pretty good for a novice! The best part is smiling in the kitchen while I make my little creations:) I certainly smile more doing this than I do as a dental receptionist where in all actuality I have to be an octopus woman racing at warp speed all day long. In my kitchen I take my time & there is no stress what so ever. Well I'm off to start my day, do my errands & make my lovely little pea pods.

Well you have to start somewhere
Well here it goes ... I'm blogging about cupcakes. The funniest thing is I don't even consider cupcakes one of my favorite desserts BUT I love to make them! Not just a cupcake with a blob of icing but an artsy fartsy type cupcake. I make cupcakes for family, friends, co-workers any just about anyone that needs a cupcake or 12! I am happy when I make a creative dessert, I love when people ooh & ahh over them, I love to see people gobble them up; so in my eyes
CUPCAKES = HAPPY. Any mathmaticians that would like to argue my equation please go right ahead :)
