"Very pleased and so glad the cards were there, Thanks Kim, they were a winner."
That's a direct quote from the caterer friend I made the storks & babies for! WHOO HOO hopefully she will need dessert in the future & give me a ring.
Today I am going to attempt to mold chocolate guitars & musical notes for my nephews birthday. He is in a band called Wilhelm and plays the bass guitar! And he only likes vanilla cupcakes with vanilla icing! I asked him if I can at least dye the frosting. Michael said yes if it doesn't taste any different. So color will be my only decorating devise for his birthday cupcakes and whether he likes it or not he is getting chocolate guitars on top of his cupcakes with a few other little surprises on top!

They loved them:)
Well the caterer friend that wanted the baby & stork cupcakes just loved them! Can't wait to hear how the people at the luncheon liked them. They gave me a wonderful compliment, saying they have been in the business a very long time & haven't seen that kind of work. And that I need to change my calling cards to Cupcakologist or Cupcake Maker Extraodinaire. WOW!!! Me really?!

The storks brought all the little baby girls & boys
Well the babies & storks are all done! And I learned something today :( if you use whole eggs you can NOT dye the batter blue! It turns green! Oh my goodness I was slightly freaking out about that since I used all the cake flour that I had. But the final outcome of the pink & blue boy/girl cupcakes was just adorable! So all I can say about the slightly greenish cupcake is lesson learned!
Please leave feedback about my cupcakes all feedback is appreciated good, bad & indifferent!

Can't wait until tomorrow :)
Well tomorrow is the day to make the 3 dozen cupcakes for the Labor & Delivery Luncheon at a local hospital. I wish I was making them today. I love the reaction of the people I make the cupcakes for. Hopefully the reaction will be How cute or So adorable! Of course, I want them to like the taste of the cupcakes as well not just the design of the cupcake. I will have to start taking a survey after my friends pick up the cupcakes for their events. Just wondering I am thinking of making plain cupcakes with wonderful flavor combinations....but that would be like every other cupcake maker around now a days......maybe I will just stick to my niche of awesome adorable cupcakes with personality! What do you think?????

Storks and babies oh my
The storks are done and they came out really cute. It is alittle difficult working with 4 different colors of melted chocolate, but I did it & they are adorable. Now today onto making little tiny babies in a blanket, all different ethnicities too. Now the date of this order has suddenly changed from Monday to Tuesday creating quite a cunumdrum since I work all day Monday & don't get home until 5:30ish. But this is with the caterer so I can't complain and hopefully she will need more cupcakes in the future. I will keep my fingers crossed that these cupcakes go over well. I will definately keep you posted LOL

The stork mold came!!!!!
The stork mold came and I already made 4! One broke at the leg/body joint but no biggie. Just wanted to get some practice in. They are not all that difficult to make so just need 9 more storks and then onto the fondant babies. The icing will be baby blue & pink 18 of each color . Wednesday will be baby making day :) I will post pictures on Wednesday...wish me luck!
Waiting on supplies
I really really hope my stork mold comes today at the very least tomorrow. OMG I have to start making these storks. I will be up the proverbial creek without a paddle if they don't arrive. I do not want to disappoint the people that asked for the cupcakes. I know the babies will be cute but they want storks & babies. Say a prayer to the mailman for me because I need that mold!

No cupcakes this weekend
I was really hoping that the stork chocolate mold I ordered would have shown up today. But unfortunately it did not. Next weekend I will have 3 dozen cupcakes to make & I really wanted to have the storks all done. I can start making the little babies in a blanket out of fondant though. What did arrive today were my new calling cards. Beautiful cards...Kupkakes by Kimmie with pink butterflies all over the front of the card! Imagine that incorporating my new favorite things into one; cupcakes & butterflies :) SWEET

No Go
I guess the blood drive really wanted marble mini cupcakes because they totally changed their mind & are just having little sandwiches and NO dessert! No dessert just does not seem right since it's my favorite portion of the food pyramid. Well I wish them good luck on their blood donations anyway!

Red Cross Blood Drive Cupcakes!
Another possibility, 5 doz mini cupcakes for a Red Cross Blood Drive! They wanted marble cake with white icing and their logo red blood drip on top! I had to actually say no to the marble! Can you imagine marbleizing 60 mini cupcakes in those teeny tiny cupcake pans! I suggested red velvet so it's a wait & see right now.

Baby Girls, Baby Boys & Storks OH MY!
Well now making cupcakes for a luncheon incorporating a labor & delivery theme! Girl & Boy Babies & Storks how cute. I am thinking I will make the babies from fondant & the storks from a chocolate mold. Really have to put on my thinking cap for this one. They need to be perfecto! Thinking plain vanilla with light pink & blue frosting with pearls & the baby or stork on top! Of course pictures will follow :)

Need to make MORE cupcakes :)
Well today the peapods get picked up....I must find some other people to make cupcakes for!!! I am the happiest making the darn little things my family laughs because I'm so smiley when I make them:) It is so much fun, there's no stress & cupcakes make everyone HAPPY. Now I am trying to think of a theme for my 18 yr old nephew's birthday. He is a musician in a band ... any suggestions?

The peapods are done...the peapods are done!!
These are by far the cutest ccupcakes I have ever made! I am very proud of them. The icing is swirly green & baby blue. Every cupcake has a peapod & a pea tendril &/or little green pea. I certainly hope they are a big hit at the baby shower :)
Well todays the day!
OK so today is the very first time I am making a substantial amount of cupcakes for an event. It is a baby shower for twins. The cupcakes are my Two Peas in a Pod cupcakes very very cute for little twinigans! Hopefully today will go better than yesterday....I made a cake for our nephew's birthday.
1st the batter spewed over the pans while baking, then apparently I didn't chill the cake enough for the crumb coat, then I didn't have the proper tools to smooth the buttercream, & my hand was so shaky I had a horrible time with the squeeze bag & doing the trim work with the icing, I had to keep stopping & starting over! It is definitely NOT up to my cupcake standards!! I can decorate 1 little tiny cupcake & take a rest...you cannot do that with an entire cake. I am a cupcake maker & I suck as a cake maker! It will taste fine but the look of it leaves something to be desired. It's very amateurish & I am slightly embarrassed. Oh well :( Off to cupcake land pictures of the finished peapod cupcakes will be posted later. Note to self: these cupcakes better look adorable!

Testing out arm with nerve damage
Well this weekend I will test out my arm to see how it holds up decorating a substantial amount of cupcakes. 40 cupcakes is quite a few to be trying to squeeze a pastry bag for hours. I do not have the arm strength of Buddy the Cake Boss that is for sure! The hubs wanted to invent something for me that would be like a caulk gun & alot easier to use than squeezing a pastry bag....he thought if it panned out & he could sell it maybe we would have enough money to open a little bake shop.....guess what Wilton already made one you would have to refill quite a bit because its not very big. I haven't told him yet. He will be heart broken. I was quite surprised when I saw it in AC Moore since I am always in the cake aisle and never saw anything like it before, it must be a new product. Hopefully, my arm will hold out & it doesn't take my entire weekend trying to ice these cupcakes. I see many breaks & arm rubbing in my future. :(

Maybe a cupcake will help
I seriously need to find some more people that need cupcakes! Birthday, showers, wedding, congratulations or just because you like cupcakes! Give me a reason and I will think up a very cute cupcake for you :)

Pea Pods
Well today I'm doing alot of fondant work making little pea pods for the baby shower cupcakes this weekend. I had never worked with fondant before so I was a little nervous....but once I got the hang of it I was banging out the pea pods rather quickly. It took the longest to actually dye the fondant & to make sure the color was uniform. Once it is rolled out I simply cut circles of green & lay them out on waxed paper. Then I used a faint pink or skin color fondant to make little balls which are the peas. I sit 2 peas in a pod & fold the circle over so the little peas are just peeking out. I will make little smiley faces on the peas & I even made some green curlycue's....if you have ever seen an actual pea plant you will know what I am referring to. I cannot wait to see the finished product! I'm very excited about these baby shower cupcakes! So the way I see things is my decorating skills are all self-taught everything is by trial & error and I'm actually doing pretty good for a novice! The best part is smiling in the kitchen while I make my little creations:) I certainly smile more doing this than I do as a dental receptionist where in all actuality I have to be an octopus woman racing at warp speed all day long. In my kitchen I take my time & there is no stress what so ever. Well I'm off to start my day, do my errands & make my lovely little pea pods.

Well it's going to be a very busy week! I have to buy supplies and I have to make a Yankee birthday cake for my nephew & I have to make Two Peas in a Pod Cupcakes for a twins baby shower! Pictures will follow. I have already started the pea pods and they are just too cute. It's just the beginning hopefully I will be busy every weekend.

Well you have to start somewhere
Well here it goes ... I'm blogging about cupcakes. The funniest thing is I don't even consider cupcakes one of my favorite desserts BUT I love to make them! Not just a cupcake with a blob of icing but an artsy fartsy type cupcake. I make cupcakes for family, friends, co-workers any just about anyone that needs a cupcake or 12! I am happy when I make a creative dessert, I love when people ooh & ahh over them, I love to see people gobble them up; so in my eyes
CUPCAKES = HAPPY. Any mathmaticians that would like to argue my equation please go right ahead :)
